Last week we were blessed with a few new faces around the SHE Center. One of which is a woman named Mimi*
Mimi used to work in the bars of Patong. She had been working there for years, and one day she was able to meet some members of a World Race team that came through to serve with SHE. These women would nightly go into the bars and start relationships with anyone who was down there (mean, vendors, children, bar owners and the women).
Such a close relationship was created in such a short amount of time. They had coffee, lunch and beach dates. It was through this relationship that the team members got to know Mimi’s heart. She was able to be open and honest with them and share of how she did not like her job.
She came out to look at the SHE Center and all it had to offer, but heard of the salary that she would be making and decided it wasn’t enough and went back to the bars.
Four months later, we find her on our doorstep. She had enough, and it was time for her to leave the bars. She has not shared much about her time in the bars; she is still adjusting to it all. It is a new life, and change is always hard, even when it is change for the good.
Please join me in prayer for Mimi. Pray that she would know she is accepted by us and God for who she is and does not have to rely on makeup, pretty clothes and a perfect body. Pray that she would integrate well with the community that is here. Pray as she begins to heal. Pray that she would be open to hearing His word.
Read about the team member’s perspective of how their relationship was formed and how hurt she was when she returned to the bars.
And read the after, how they now are rejoicing and weeping as their friend is no longer forced to sell herself!
